so i am hungry, and looking for some quick chow. got a package of thai ginger noodles, and to stretch that a little, think to toss in some mushrooms. on the tv is some ad abusing edit piaf's memory. she's singing "je ne regrette rien" and when she gets to "oublié" [1], i sink the can opener into the can of mushrooms and start to crank it. *plop*plop*plop*, three cats jump from their resting spots and miaow around my feet in the kitchen.

it's been months since i opened anything good (tuna). but they've not forgotten.

[1] for those who don't speak french, "oublié" means "forgotten".

I get a crowd within a few minutes if I make any sounds in the kitchen that remotely resemble any sounds I've made in the past associated with cat food. Sometimes Zeki just hangs out in the kitchen if I'm there, on principle.

I've been making tunafish salad to eat lately, mixing a can of tuna in water with Trader Joe's Wasabi mayo. Yum. I've got serious issues with my can opener, as I rarely get a can open without a lot of trouble (my search for a good used electric can opener has been less than successful as well, with the 4 that I have bought at thrift stores and auctions failing to work). Yesterday I made some for lunch and had to dig out all the tuna with a fork because the lid was still attached in a couple of spots. I washed it out thoroughly, but both cats still came over to the recycle bin to sniff out the can. I had to pull it out of there when Sid started to lick it, because I was afraid he would cut his tongue.

Godiva doesn't meow around my feet, but she does do the wrap herself around my legs thang. She doesn't yet have the sense that Spenser seems always to have had about how being underfoot can be hazardous to your health. Interesting stuff........
