says google, going live with its much-rumoured-about new service google base. (i'm probably one of thousands making this joke, and i am already sorry, but dammit, when does one ever get to say that and have it really be significant?! :)

so what's it good for? you can enter any item you'd like other people to know about. recipes, research papers,stuff you want to sell, inventories of stuff you collect, essays on welcoming our new google overlords. you can label and tag your items. google will host them for you. and you can search for stuff from other people.

ebay and craigslist were alleged to be all up in arms when news about the new service leaked, but i think that's small potatoes in the grander scheme of things: here comes the largest shot at an actual semantic web.
