good, productive day. the landlords are gone for a week to visit their offspring elsewhere, and we've got the run of the place, and the dog. i like having the dog; it gets me out for longer walks than the cats, and she is always so happy.

started cutting up deadwood that they've got piled for burning -- i hate it when they burn outdoors (i hate it when anyone here does; i wish for an ordinance disallowing it because it is a stupid pollution hazard and entirely unnecessary). there are some hefty branches among it -- it's mostly cedar which isn't good firewood, but if it's gonna get burned, it might as well warm somebody in winter. for the smaller branches and the blackberry canes i'm gonna rent a shredder and make mulch.

then went to the shanghai for buffet. i wasn't terribly hungry, and i am getting tired of their menu; too many sweet-and-cloying dishes. but it was still decent. we had the fish table (they have a large aquarium with some little koi and some larger fish-i-can't-identify). it's the most boring aquarium on earth; it's probably easy to clean, but there isn't anything in it but gravel. i'd think even fish would like a bit more stimulation. several of them started flirting with me, they were so bored.

afterwards we took a stroll around the inner harbour, which is getting more and more cleaned up. construction on the concrete behemoth project hasn't begun again yet (for the third time?); i wonder what's keeping it now. somewhere i have an amusing picture of a banner that's hanging there now...

ah, here. i should upload my whole set of inner harbour pictures one of these days. it's really quite pretty, except for this aborted piece of sh*%$ construction. may i just say that we don't need more tall buildings down there? thank you.

at about halfway we had milkshakes at javawocky. they make the best milkshakes in town. double espresso chocolate, mmh. wandered along some of the docks that aren't part of our usual meander. all of the small boat docks are new.

then home, and i walked the dog for 40 min or so; until she no longer pulled with gusto at the leash but had settled down to lots of sniffing and leaving her mark.

good day. much, much better than yesterday.

I get an unhappy message:

when I click on the picture to see it properly.
