quick update
Apr. 29th, 2005 02:47oh man, i am not updating. nothing's wrong -- if anything, many things are going right, and are all together conspiring to keep me from writing.
and of course by now i should be in bed, since i have to catch tomorrow's 8:00 greyhound so that i can meet
elisem's train in vancouver.
i've got lots of stuff to write about, once i settle down long enough to actually do so. my rockhound fever has flared up, and continues to develop into lapidary -- i'm in the process of shaping my very first cabochon. tuesday i learned how to use a rock saw to cut slabs from rocks we've found, and a trim saw to cut out the blank for the cabochon, and then grind that down to an exact size (30x22mm). today i learned how to shape the dome, and i think i did a really good job. it looks way cool, and every couple hours i take the cab out of my toolbox and admire it. :)
i can also no longer drive past any road cut without checking out the geology.
aside from this, i am getting out a lot -- we took several longish hikes (i have new boots), one to an abandoned copper mine where we found lots of cool rocks -- nothing valuable, it's just neat to see and identify actual pyrite and malachite/azurite coatings among the old mine tailings.
also, spring is in full bloom here, and i'm taking oodles of pictures. soon to be uploaded.
and now, maybe, bed. at least to read my geology text for an hour before sleep.
