professor jaak panksepp writes in science that animals other than humans exhibit play sounds that resemble human laughs. chimps and dogs "pant play", and rats make chirps, and like being tickled.

way cool. i've always thought that dogs, at the very least, have a sense of humour. i bet nellorat could speak about rats.

I often "pant" at dogs I work with and they usually become playful when I do it. (They also look very surprised at first - maybe how I would look if they suddenly came out with human-sounding laughter.)
