occasionally i type "polyamory" into google's news aggregator to see whether anything comes up. this week there's a veritable cactusload. seems we're hitting the big times in the UK, and via the UK in india, and i find it fascinating to see how reporters present what was given as a speech in front of the british psychological society's annual conference :

this one's different:
http://www.nationalreview.com/kurtz/kurtz200503230746.asp

it refers to the 2004 article Monogamy’s Law: Compulsory Monogamy and Polyamorous Existence by Elizabeth F. Emens, published in Volume 29, Number 2 of The New York University Review of Law and Social Change, which sounds very interesting. i've got to see whether i can get ahold of that.

Good grief.

"Polyamoric" sounds like a poisonous mushroom.

And I note with interest the omission from that on-so-urbane NRO article of the cruel, careless, and egregiously clueless example that that creepy monster Santorum gave for the progression down his slippery slope.

If you've got access to a library with Lexis-Nexis law-database access, the Review of Law and Social Change is available through that. It looks like an interesting article, at least at first glance (I didn't have time yet to read through it much); it's pretty well-written and thorough.

You can get the Emens article as a PDF here (http://www.law.uchicago.edu/academics/publiclaw/resources/58-monogamy.pdf).

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] technomom who posted about this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/technomom/731051.html) a few weeks ago.
