instead i have installed journalling software on my own server. that journal is also available as an RSS feed, which you can simply add to your friends list: piranha_gooroos.

if you put piranha_gooroos on your friends list, you get to see entries whenever i've updated. well, close enough -- whenever livejournal polls the RSS feed; don't know how often that happens -- once an hour maybe?

if you don't do that, well, then you'll have to bookmark the journal on the server, and go there now and then to read up on what's been happening.

ergo, the RSS feed is handier if you read most people's journals via your friends page (or a filter thereof). otherwise it makes no difference.

Yes, the RSS feed will make it easier for me to keep up with your journal. Cool. :) And it's a feed-thingy that I'm actually interested in, go figure. ;)

But what about at your end? What makes it different for you from, say, using one of the LJ clients?

well, for one it's not LJ. :) i have problems with the way LJ is set up, and always have had those -- remember, this message originally said that i was probably not gonna stay with the format. i wanted something that's easier to handle, over which i have more control, that is overall more capable of managing different content -- and without the stupid "friends" thingie which, silly as it may be, annoys me still. :)

having the setup on my own server makes it also remarkably faster for me, *grin*. and for the most part it should be just as fast, if not faster than LJ for other people once the server actually sits out front (it's behind a slow firewall machine right now).

I don't think being annoyed by the "friends" thing is silly. I dislike it a *lot*. I would much rather it be called "folks whose journals I wouldn't mind looking at from time to time" or something.

And I guess I don't really know enough about geekly stuff to understand the nuances with the different journalling options, but some day maybe I'll sit one of you lovely geeks down and have you really explain it to me. :-)
