bladderwrack or rockweed (fucus gardneri), native to BC, and ubiquitous along the coast. supposedly edible when young "in moderation", which has so far kept me from trying it, chicken that i am.

That's interesting -- I've been around the stuff for most of my life and I've never thought about it being edible. The name "bladderwrack" is enough for me to be a chicken, too. I'd hate to find out that's a hint as to the effect of overshooting moderation!
