i can't think of a single reason. it's absolutely lovely here. even the people are generally nice to strangers. and there is a different bit of beauty around every corner.

healthcare? public transit? cycle facilities?

oh yeah, health care (good health care IMO), public transit (which is alas never quite as good as i remember from various european countries, but tends to be halfway decent inside of cities). cycle facilities depend greatly on the city. where i live it's not great, though also not abysmal; the city is at least aware that we need more for bicyclists, and is slowly working on it. there are some dedicated bike paths, but it's not an extensive network, and the nicest path (which goes from one end of the city to the other) runs right next to the highway (*ugh*; noise and pollution). for recreation it's a lot better than for transport; many trails are multi-use.

but other cities have more for bikers; victoria has bike paths everywhere, you can take your bike on public transit, and i don't think i've ever seen more cyclists anywhere in north america.

yeah -- i've been thinking of processing it a bit to make it look as good at higher resolutions.

I'm not sure what "look as good" would mean -- my preference, I think, would be for a blur. The impressionist feel got lost for me when I was able to see all the tiniest details of the flowers.

yes, less detail is what i'd consider good here. i don't want to simply blur it all over, but i'll experiment some with more targeted methods.
