an aquarium in a chinese restaurant isn't the best place to take good photos, but the catfish held still enough (compared to the little white piranha-look-alike), so he's today's catch.

Oh man, catfish! That turned out pretty well. (I've tried the taking pictures of fish in an aquarium of a Chinese restaurant -- it is really really hard to get a good shot!)

yeah, it is -- i took about 30 and only a couple are barely good enough. hurrah for digital cameras.

Yeah, the barbels really make it. I love those aquariums. Used to live near a restaurant that had one filled with some huge primitive eel-like fish and a monotonically decreasing number of goldfish...

i always wonder with aquaria (ums? my intuition says -a, but you can usually be trusted for spelling; maybe they're both valid, and in the time it took me to type this i could have looked it up. oh well).

especially when they hold large fish like this -- don't they get bored? the smaller white piranha-look-alike of whom i didn't get a good picture was engaging in behaviour that in mammals is definitely associated with boredom; zie paced and paced and paced along one side. but i don't know about fish.
