a BBC expedition team has discovered a new species of giant rat in papua new guinea. it measured 82cm in length from its nose to its tail, and weighed approximately 1.5kg.

actually, i am sorta dubious that this is a new species, because i seem to recall a prior find of a ginormous rat that looks much like this one, in indonesia. which is still on the same island, in another remote and rarely disturbed area. might easily be the same species. what i find surprising is that nobody in the media seems to have noticed.
