the white balance isn't quite right in the store, but the panasonic does a better job than the nikon. and i can always create a mode to compensate, since i shoot a lot in that store (i can create 4 user-defined modes).

good ghod, RAW takes up a lot of space.

RAW does take up a lot of space, but it also means you can just adjust the white balance, one shot at a time if necessary.

I use ufraw for this (which is free; don't know if it's available for your current platform); there's a "take your best guess" auto button and a slider which displays a numeric value to two digits. Only have to get close. (For a K20D, "close" is "within three stops either way".)

My experience with ufraw and raw files -- I've never taken any significant number of jpegs -- is that the "auto" white balance button actually works. Swans on dark water, snow on slate, that sort of thing will need manual adjusting (as will "haven't got the tonal range" shots), but usually it just comes out OK. No idea how they do that, but it's very helpful.
(Aka, dear gods, the film I would have wasted...)

I deleted my DW account to remove the temptation of making intemperate statements while considering if I could useful maintain it on an entirely closed basis.
