PSA: migration

i am not posting any original material to LJ anymore. i am crossposting the dailies and some other things, but am keeping purely dreamwidth-related items on dreamwidth (so as to not further annoy those who have an irrational thing against dreamwidth squee). i'm also going to post some things here that i feel more comfortable posting only on DW (i am not entirely sure what that will be, probably things relating to the new people i've added and the sorts of ideas they spark in my mind).

i'm basically starting slowly to close up shop on LJ, because dreamwidth is fully functional for me, and this is my new home. i will maintain an account on LJ for the time being, to read the posts of people who're not migrating and to comment. once dreamwith has finished their cross-journal reading feature, i will remove everything from my LJ account because i no longer feel good about providing my content for LJ to slap ads on.

so if you're reading me in both places, you can remove me on LJ and just read me on DW.

if you're crossposting the same things on DW and on LJ, please let me know, so i can pare down my reading list on LJ.

I've taken you off my default view on LJ, but left you on my friends list, because I expect to be still making some LJ-only friends-locked posts, and would like you to be able to read them.

Incidentally, the cross-posting makes ambiguous your use of 'here' in 'i'm also going to post some things here that i feel more comfortable posting only on DW...', although as it's pretty obvious from context, that's not really a problem.

I'm not xposting the same things to LJ and DW.....I dunno if I just want to splatter all the emo crap I usually do all over DW, altho Lord knows DW's servers is probably a safer place to have it than LJ's. I just don't know right now. I love DW, tho.

I made a post on LJ saying "hey! Got dreamwidth now! Everything's being written on DW and crossposted back to LJ!" So yeah, go ahead and take me off LJ-friends; all of my content that isn't "hey! Look at DW!" will be here.

I can't defriend you on LJ, or even take you off of my default view there, because I'm such a completist and OMG what if you one day post something only there even though you said you won't????? Eventually I'll give in and start paring down my default view, but not yet...

(I'm still posting LJ-only for now. Mainly waiting for better importer and interoperability support before I start moving.)

I'm cross-posting from DW a lot, but probably not exclusively - for a start there's communities stuff and I will retain links to Lj for communities unless they also migrate over to DW. I don't think I'm likely to post anything you would miss on LJ though so if you want to take me off your friendslist or viewing filter there I won't be offended in any way.

I'm still only posting (well, for values of "posting" which include my infrequency) on LJ for the moment, and reading over there significantly more often than here. (This is a combination of habit and style system; I've optimized my setup there for Mobile Safari but haven't ported it over here yet.)

I haven't decided what I'm going to do about crossposting. I may revive my self-hosted Wordpress blog and have that crosspost to both LJ and DW.

Dreamwidth and syndicated feeds

Even before I knew all the other reasons why I wanted to use Dreamwidth, I was drooling over the ability to declare ownership of syndicated feeds and get comments. That's *the* feature that I've wanted in LiveJournal for years. Should be showing up here before site launch.

That is a lovely thing and I'm also looking forward to it. (Heck, just having the "Preview" button on the quick comment form is already making me happier!)

i KNOW! i get all thrilled over little things like that, which have bugged me on LJ for years.
