Help!
on 2009-04-27 01:27 (UTC)Firstly, my second attempt at crossposting to livejournal failed. I got an email telling me it'd failed, no further info. I have no idea what went wrong, it was simple text to LJ. Only thing I can think of that's different is that my LJ is set to screen all comments not made by people on my flist, but this wasn't a locked post. I ran a second test, it's also failed, again I have no clue why.
Secondly, I'd like to import my LJ (given its been recommended to try before 30th) but I'm a bit nervous that it won't work for me if I can't crosspost.
Thirdly, when I followed your recommendation to beta-upgrade my account to paid, nothing happened. I do not appear to be able to beta-upgrade my account. Now I don't know if my crossposting problem is actually some setting back here in DW. (skip that, now I can upgrade to paid. I think it confuses me that the pulldown menu stays on "free account" - my visual system pays more attention to that as a marker of my current status than the actual text of status above. I realise there is no point fixing this for beta-upgrade, but it might be a general usability issue for brains like mine.)
I will tentatively try the import later today (currently 11:30, planning to try import at 14:30, I'm at work you know ;-)) unless you advise me not to.
I'm just feeling a bit nervous and stressed about not being able to crosspost and not seeing any reason for what's wrong. I get a message about attempting to crosspost to LJ and then the failure email, so it's not that I'm not ticking enough tickyboxes :-).
Oh, the picture of the coral bark maple is gorgeous and the totoro creampuffs make me want to try to make them too.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 02:11 (UTC)mine went without a hitch, but i don't have lots of filters and screenings and stuff, so i am unlikely t have run into any of the special problems.
you could have a look at bugzilla and check what state the various importer bugs are in; we just had a code push. how comfy are you with very techy things? i expect somewhat so here are the open bugs at this time; and these are possibly not included in the production code yet.
more in a bit; swamped with work.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 04:20 (UTC)As for techy things, when I was paid to be a programmer we used bugzilla. However I still refuse to learn Perl. I am certainly not bothered by hunting for info in very technical language - I'm a scientist, it's par for the course.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 07:40 (UTC)alright, i am gonna look at your crosspost problem now.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 09:18 (UTC)import from LJ
on 2009-04-27 13:14 (UTC)Otherwise, it's looking good.
Re: import from LJ
on 2009-04-27 21:12 (UTC)which messages in your inbox are confusing?
Re: import from LJ
on 2009-04-27 23:00 (UTC)(sorry, you've already *snrk*ed.)
This email basically:
A status update about your import.
Unknown status update.
It's after friends groups and before bio. I don't know if that means something failed. (the others are all "X imported successfully") I don't know what messages are supposed to appear and in what order. Maybe it's the "Ooops, I see you have a bio already. Never mind" message :-).
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 08:06 (UTC)i think we'll need to start from the beginning, *wry grin*. this would be considerably faster in some form of IM; do you do any of them?
oh, forgot to say -- don't worry at all about asking me for help. i am in fact trawling my reading list and comms for people who need help, so this is perfectly fine.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 09:22 (UTC)I use Adium, I have a .mac aol account and a google talk account, and I'm also on skype somewhere although I haven't used it for ages, I assume the application is on this computer somewhere.
Anyway, I imagine google talk? I'm also aquaeri there.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 09:31 (UTC)poor guy. your cat is ok, i hope.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 11:15 (UTC)Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 13:11 (UTC)In the meantime, I have cross-posted to LJ. The problem was when I set up the aquaeri at LJ stuff on DW, it autofilled my password, but it wasn't my LJ password, it was my DW password. This would probably be obvious to anyone else.
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 20:18 (UTC)i am not so pleased with the total lack of any error message beyond "it's failed". but hey, it's alpha code. i'll file a ticket for it.
hope your cat's test results are fine!
Re: Help!
on 2009-04-27 23:06 (UTC)Passwords
on 2009-04-29 01:07 (UTC)Is this actually a DW issue, a firefox issue, or the way they play together? It doesn't strike me as ideal behaviour. (I'm pretty sure I can eliminate 1Password as a cause, the current version asks for your master password before filling).
Note that this is something that's harder for you to test because I imagine part of the issue is that my LJ and DW names are the same.
