"i believe it when i hear it from one of the principals".

well, now i have.

i hope he's wearing his best asbestos underpants.

contrary to all the angsters, i also think this might actually be good for LJ.

I'm just waiting to see the new more-legal TOS Brad mentions...

I looked up Typepad's copyright policy and they seem even harsher than LJ's, lacking any hint of support for somebody who *receives* a notification

they might tell somebody that they have that choice when they receive a complaint -- you could write to them and ask. have i mentioned lately how much i think the DMCA sucks?

but yeah, i think this will become a major learning experience for six apart. they come from a completely different culture. it'll be interesting to watch.

I really and honestly think this is the best thing that could happen for LJ. I am thrilled. THRILLED.

oh, i am glad you're thrilled! that was actually my biggest worry, that you'd somehow get shafted. :)

though i am not sure whether i am missing something; a part of this paragraph sounds weird to me:

Volunteers can continue to help out on the site, and we'll continue our tradition of users helping users in open forums. The existing employee-only support categories (like payments) will remain employee-only and we might have to add more employees to abuse to help set standards for support, but the rest will be open. We understand that some percentage of the volunteers will be upset about this deal and quit volunteering, and that's regrettable, but we'll do our best to keep everybody happy.

why would some volunteers be upset about this?

Because Brad has seen one too many volunteer temper tantrums over absolutely nothing :P

Seriously. I am thrilled about this. I am thrilled. This is the best damn birthday present ever -- and I think it's going to be fantastic for support.

To be honest, I thought there would be much more of an uproar among support people than there is. Everyone seems pretty happy, or at least not really upset. It was surprising, but in a good way. :D

I'm a little worried about the lack of assurance that LiveJournal won't acquire banner ads (amidst the assurance that other bad things won't happen). But eh, there's lots more important things to worry about.
