fiddleheads, for their resemblance to the upper end of a fiddle (violin). the biological name is circinate vernation.

Fiddleheads, that's funny - had never thought about that myself while I am actually a violinst myself:)

The title of your post made me smile, as one of our cats is named Nero and he loves to sleep in the bed of ferns in the garden :)
