today's good thing about dreamwidth:

the "friends list" has been split into two conceptually separate lists -- the "list of people whose journals i read" and the "list of people that can read my locked posts".

That's a good split of the "friends" lists. Can you also specially allow some individuals to read or not read a particular locked post?

You can create access groups and you will be able to create subscription lists. These will be similar to filters now. You will be able to assign people who have general access to your journal to one more access groups, and assign an entry as being visible only to one or more access groups.

That pretty much works. The problem ultimately is that "friend" was never the right word.

I've read your "good thing" series. I agree with your good things.

Here's a bad thing, though. Their pages do not render very well in my Linux version Firefox 3.08. Most notably, the remember me checkbox and login submit button are underneath the search text input and go button.

The #account-links style has position as absolute. This takes it out of the normal flow so the masthead height is not affected by the height of the account-links div. The bottom of that div is covered up by the bottom of the masthead and the search tags.
