so there's definitely something wrong with shadow's mouth. i separated her from the others by feeding her warm wet food in the egg room with the door closed. she started digging in with gusto, but then she behaved like a lump of catfood had bitten her; she jumped back from it, and then pawed it carefully while keeping a distance, and licked food off her paw. after that happened a couple of times, she wouldn't go back to the same bowl and instead prowled the others to lick them.

ok, i am human, we have big brains. today i pureed the cat food in the food processor with enough water (and some cream) to make it liquid. now she can lick it all. i also warmed it up a bit. that seems to work well; she lapped up about half of what we started with, ca 80g of the can. we shall repeat that later today, whenever she shows signs of being hungry again.

my doctor's visit went ... weird. totally not what i had expected and stressed over -- new doctors IME like to do a lot of prodding, testing, and going over my history. but doctor O. was all smiles, let me give two sentences of how the heart problems started and where i was now, looked at my latest data (which i always neatly print in graph form), pronounced it great, and invited me to come back soon for a whole physical and so we could get to know each other better -- and then she wrote me a prescription for a year's worth of meds and said goodbye. shortest visit i've ever had. but at least i have meds now and don't have to go back just to have them filled (i guess she doesn't believe in that policy; i actually think it's annoying but also good for people like me). if only she knew how likely i am to get myself back for a physical...

Call now and make the physical appointment. Really. Right now.

*snicker*. yeah, like that's gonna do it.

today's phone energy will go to the vet. MY mouth doesn't keep me from eating.

LOL! It was worth a try. ;-)

My phone energy goes into sitting to the phone in the first place. Once I've made one call, I can usually make several. It's getting on the phone at all that takes some convincing.

It takes a year to get a physical appointment with my GP, so I try to get that done as far as possible in advance.

a year!? good grief. that must be that much-vaunted "private care" we keep hearing about as such a model of health care. while socialized medicine is scary, cause you supposedly have to wait forever til your turn comes -- no more than a week for my GP. though in truth, specialists tend to have long waiting lists for initial consultations. but not a year even there.

the phone is 2 ft to my right. my energy problem lies in dealing with other people, and the second phone call is more effort than the first.

Well, if I had an issue today, he'd see me today or tomorrow, but initial consults or physicals take a very long time, because he is very good and has trouble turning people away. But yes, the system could be improved upon, no doubt.

My phone is also two feet to my right, but picking it up is an enormous effort. Once I get going, I'm fine. I'm like that about a lot of things, including grading, writing, and certain other chores and work-related tasks. Silly. Seems to take me longer to get ready to do certain things than to actually do them.

I have an excellent but sneaky doctor.

We know each other socially. And she never repeat never brings up anything about my health outside her office.

She loves it when patients bring her information they've sussed out on the Internet. She will cheerfully take down websites given to her and look things over and discuss them with you.

She will present patients with options and information about possible treatments or tests. She will tell you frankly if her own opinion is at variance with current views- which means she'll say things like 'They say to get *insert annoying lab procedure here* done every year, but I think that's excessive. Every three years is plenty unless you're presenting some symptom that suggests there's a problem.'

She'll discuss medications with me and tell me when she thinks something is unlikely to be useful. If she suggests a medication to me she'll also tell me if there are other medications which might work and why she's offering the one she's chosen.

The sneaky part is that since I know she isn't going to mindlessly parrot a schedule of tests and procedures at me when she does suggest I have something done I'm more likely to trust her on it. And I do tend to keep to followups because appointments with her are the least annoying I've ever encountered.

The medical community should bottle her.

oh, she sounds great. i hope to find somebody like that some time. well, maybe this new one will work out; it could have been that she was just pressed for time; what with a new practice and all. she did ask me why i was there and i started by saying i had run out of meds. i'll see how she acts when i go in for that "getting to know each other" physical (though i restrained myself from asking whether we'd also be examining her, *snrk*).

The only way to find out is to make the call...

I'm getting a physical with new doc in april, kinda wonder how it's going to go. I'm on the list for all the things they start checking when one gets advanced in years.
