to make opera the default browser in mac OSX, you have to follow these steps down incongruity road:

1. open safari (the browser that comes with the OS).
2. navigate to safari -> preferences -> general.
3. in the drop-down menu, pick opera.
4. close safari.

WTF, apple and opera? you both are idiots here. every other browser has an option in its own preferences to make it the default, why doesn't opera? don't you realize this makes using your browser suboptimal? and apple doesn't mention this anywhere in its help either; i had to take to google to find out how other people had solved this. *sniff*sniff* -- that's microsoft-like behaviour; surely we couldn't want any other default browser than safari? get with it!

yes, i am alive. but i am monomaniacal about sketchup, so i usually forget about LJ until it's time to sleep :). sketchup has gotten majorly awesome since i last played with it.

thanks for this. i've been too lazy to figure out how to do it, but i vastly prefer opera to safari.

and much agreement on sketchup -- isn't it a blast? you can do real serious work with it now. and by "serious" i mean "fun," of course.

it is totally awesome now. i am in love with components, and the follow-me tool. and dynamic components are OMG, so cool. i've worked with a lot of 3D modellers, but sketchup is amazingly intuitive most of the time. once one has figured out the inference engine.

i just posted a link to some of my WiPs. don't laugh! professionals are not allowed to laugh at dilettantes! :)

oh yeah, 3D printing in combination with this is so awesome.

i can't wait for the day when i can design my own replacement parts, and print them on our desktop 3D printer. it's not far away now.

Yeah, it wasn't like that originally, and I remember everyone being totally up in arms when they made that change. It was in a fairly early version of OS X -- 10.1 maybe? Prior to that, there was a system-wide preference for default browser it in the main System Preferences.

*sigh*. yeah, me too. i still take them, but i can't seem to get myself around to prepping them for LJ. i figure once i am through this total NRE phase with sketchup, the oomph for picure posting might return. also, it will be spring, and i'll turn from a hibernating hermit into a ... springinsfield.
