reading right-wing sites will make my head 'splode. i've got to stop that. this is mccain's base, the people who come to his and palin's rallies, the ones he's so proud of? ghods. if those people were on my side, i'd be ashamed. but then he's also proud of g. gordon liddy. what can you say.

Of course the reason anyone would be voting against Obama must be because we are all racists, and not because Obama is a Marxist. Right.

yeah, when reading that comment thread, i am indeed quite certain that y'all are voting against him because you're racist. also ignorant. because obama's no marxist (none of you seem to understand what marxism actually is. or communism. or socialism. or stalinism. i wonder what it is you do know. i'm not supposed to call y'all stupid. but man, you're making that very hard.).

I am looking forward to a number of blogs complaining that President Obama is not a Marxist, which is one of the many reasons I am voting for him.

Many of them know exactly what Stalinism is, but the party they demand absolute loyalty to has a different name.

They clearly understand Oligarchy, even if they don't know that's what it's called.

What is just amazing to me is that they are painting socialism as mutually exclusive of democracy and capitalism, despite the fact that our country wouldn't exist without our various socialized services. And even more amazing (when my cynicism lifts for a few seconds) is that it's apparently an attack that actually works. Then I remember how incredibly stupid and intentionally uninformed a huge portion of the population is and it all becomes so much more clear.

oh noes, SOCIALISM!

i am really trying not to be a snobby elitist, but when i see pure shite like that, my bile rises. maybe those people need to be shamed into changing by their peers; appealing to their reason seems not to work at all.

this whole phony malarkey from the mccain campaign about socialist communist terrorist muslim obama "redistributing the wealth" -- while the tax payer is bailing out the financial sector! and palin, that lying, scheming "walmart mom", bases her high approval ratings in alaska partly on taking from big oil and sending checques to every household. what's that but redistributing the wealth? good grief.

The Daily Show really went into this well including cutting in Palins remarks as negatives about Obama with her saying almost the same thing as positive things about Alaska. I think all politicians are lying fuckheads, but Palin really doesn't have the experience to make her gigantic lies seem semi-compatible like the old boy network does so it's even more clear that there is nothing redeemable about her at all. Cheney must be spinning in his coffin at the thought of being replaced by someone so unskilled in denying reality.

If Obama is a Marxist, I am a little green Martian.

So, if Obama loses, will you be returning to the home planet?

Apparently the thread isn't readable any more (did someone develop some shame?). I'm not sure it would actually top the thing I read a few weeks ago (I think it was a particle from Making Light) "proving" that William Ayers wrote Dreams from my father - I think the argument boiled down to "I refuse to believe a black man could write that well", although it was never said in so many words.

Come now, it also made the cogent argument that since both books talked about rage, they were clearly written by the same person. Ayers is the only angry person in America, since after all, why would anyone have anything to be angry about?

My favorite part was the argument from similar scores on grammar grade level checkers, which has produced hilarity among all of my friends who have ever used one of those things (including a conservative McCain voter -- but then, he's a small-government libertarian type with blind and unjustified hope in McCain, rather than a racist fear voter).

I think I agree with you - which is to say, once I'd laughed at how ridiculous most of the "evidence" was, all I could see left was "I refuse to believe a black man could write that well".

Oh, yes, we agree and I was just being sarcastic. Sorry about that; it doesn't come across in LJ comments well.
