for the retirement income i lost today.

and yay for the US house to vote that lousy plan down anyway. only fools rush in -- i am glad people called their congress critters en masse. it might well be that we all don't know shit, but i do know one thing -- in my personal dealings i ain't gonna hire the people who fucked up the first time, hand them a big blank checque, and ask them to make it all better.

i think bacchus is sick. he laid in my room all day yesterday. today when i woke up and looked for him, he wasn't there. i walked around outside and called for him, and he came out from under some storage; sat for a while, purred quietly while i petted him, and then walked back under the tarps. now he's in my room again, curled into the sleeping bag (this is a comfort spot). he doesn't have anything visibly wrong; i suspect it is something he ate. if he's no better tomorrow i'll take him to the vet.

I hope Bacchus is better soon.

When the market goes down I remind myself that this means the retirement investments I thought I had were really overvalued.

Over the past few decades these scandals and downturns seem to be coming more and more close together. I think the kind of high-growth capitalism that people expect these days is something of a ponzi scheme.

I'm far enough from retirement that when the market goes down I figure my money's just buying that many more shares. Until I actually sell what I have for less than I bought it for, I haven't lost anything.
