i've noticed that i don't post a lot of texture images, even though those are often my favourites, and i take oodles of them. i guess i feel they're boring to others? i don't know. i love this one.

I like the texture images you post!. Maybe if they were really really frequent, it would be boring, but, don't worry, you're not boring now.

This one is cool.

I can see why you like it. But I can also understand why you don't post many of them. It's not so much that they're boring, as that they require someone to be in a somewhat different headspace to appreciate them.

yes, that's how i feel. i know i am in this mindset almost all the time now because my focus for many years now been on seeing patterns. but i know most people aren't in that headspace (i wasn't in it earlier in my life).

being as i am never bored, i don't always have a good feel for what captures other people's vision.

an arbutus is a tree arbutus menziesii, usually called madrone in the US. a burl is a lumpy growth on a tree caused by an infection. this tree is right on the shore, and the tide can wash over part of the bottom, which is why there is sand in the indentations. i'd never seen this sort of formation before; it struck me as very unusual even for a burl.

Now that you've said it, I see that "arbutus burl" is the subject of this post and I could easily have found out more if I'd done a quick search. But thank you for taking the time to explain.

It's interesting because the bulges are so evenly spaced and dense. And the bark doesn't look like bark - too smooth.

That's one of the things that I love about arbutus. It has three different types of bark and two of them are wonderously smooth.

Some part came loose off the garbage disposal, so it was no longer balanced and when I ran it the sink vibrated. A bowl of water in the sink set up patterns of standing waves. The surface reflected light in that tracery.

I don't see any reason not to post texture images as long as they're interesting. This one certainly is.

*chortle*. see, that's the problem -- _i_ find a whole lot of things interesting that other people might not. with this one i made an educated guess that it would be so to others, but i have lots and lots where i am not at all certain.

wanna know how many peeling paint images i have? i can stare at them for long periods of time. :)

Not at all boring to me! Looks like some sort of alien life form with a gazillion breasts with multiple nipples. Fascinating.

This is spectacular. You have an absolutely incredible eye. Whilst I may not share your interest in subject matter I have yet to find a photograph posted by you that didn't please me in some way. You really do have a gift. Dsqd in Toronto
