maybe. i've seen enormous burls on trees that hadn't been touched by humans. apparently a couple of the largest burls in the world (who keeps track of that sort of thing?) are right here in BC.

Wow. That's impressive.
There was someone in town when I was a kid who made tables out of burl wood. They were glorious: intricate crazily tangled patterns of the "rings" of wood, black on a golden background. I really wanted one. Maybe I'll get the couple who bought his business (the wife does some amazing wood sculpture) to make me one, some day.

yeah, it's interesting how something that's really an illness (most often caused by insect or mold infestations) can look so gorgeous.
