forsythia (i don't know which one exactly, but probably an x intermedia variant). the first garden shrub to bloom here. blooms before it shows any leaves.

Ah, that's the difference a few degrees of north makes, then. The forsythias on our street have been at it for a couple of weeks now. The bigger magnolias are just getting going now, while the smaller ones have been blooming a good week or more. Our flowering plum is just about done, but looking back at my LJ entries, it did bloom for about a solid month, beginning to end.
