i thought we were done with this. it is probably sympathy snow because the paramour was complaining about the weather in toronto, and how nice it'll be to come back here. uh huh.

not leaving the house, even though my new garmin forerunner arrived this morning, and i am eager to try it out. *brrr*. well, it has to charge first, and i have to sleep. nighty-night.

Makes for very pretty pictures, though. When it snowed Wednesday night at our house it didn't stick well enough to make pretty. What's the point in snow if it doesn't make things pretty? Humph.

snow should be pretty

Yay for the forerunner! I was wondering if it was related to your Fedex rant. I did a bit over 8.5 k in a bit over one hour yesterday. Looks a bit like I'm outpacing myself:

*heh*. go you!

yes, it got here! and it is so cool; i mean, even cooler than i thought it would be. i actually went out in the dark and snow to try it out, i was that excited about it. it's not too large for my wrist -- the only drawback is that i usually wear a watch with the face down and turn the arm upward to look at the face, and i can't wear it that way because then the GPS complains. but generally the GPS works perfectly, even under heavy cover. the heart rate monitor is not half the pain i feared it might be; it's quite comfortable (since i don't run but only walk i can dispense with support), and even though i am fatso macfatty, i didn't have to make a new strap; the one it comes with is actually long enough (with even a little to spare). and the sensors pick up my heart rate very well, even with just water instead of electrode gel). the dislay is easy to read; large numbers.

it's very configurable too, as in which data i want to see while walking, which i hadn't even thought about beforehand.

and the software works on my mac. i was afraid it'd just come for windows. linux would be a bit much hoping for, i know. :) graphs are always fun to look at. now i just need to figure out how to get the gps data onto google earth/maps and i'll be in geek heaven.

i'm really happy with it. thanks for telling me about it, and for going on so enthusiastically! this will be a big incentive to my exercising getting out and enjoying nature.

Yay! I'm so happy it works for you, and fits, and so on. I've become so used to the heart rate monitor I almost forget to take it off, but I do remember it was a bit weird at first.

As for getting onto google earth/maps, have a look at motionbased (http://motionbased.com). I think you only get to see 10 trips with a free account, but it'll at least let you play around and get some instant gratification (http://pics.livejournal.com/aquaeri/pic/0000y5ht/). Also as I understand, they're changing the website structure over the next few months, and I think free accounts may have access to all trips after that.

I've been using motionbased in Safari, because it clashed with some of my blockers in firefox, but a quick look suggests it works in firefox now.

WooHoo! [livejournal.com profile] jamver0 mentions something about setting the time on your camera (to match the forerunner), so the pictures go to the right place on google earth, but I'm guessing you know about that already.

I'm about to head off for my Sunday morning run.

nope, i didn't know about that -- and that might explain some people's google earth pictures being in some really silly places.

my camera time was once synched with my computer which synchs itself via ntp. i should check it though. thank jamver0 for me!

mayaknife makes it through a gruelling week of training in freezing Toronto.

Ah, at last the weekend is here. Soon I'll be back where it's warmer.

Opens up browser. Navigates to pleonastic's page. Stares in dismay.

Figures.

In one of those '"global warming" actually means "global weather crazies"' events, it's been snowing in (Southern) Australia too. My parents were just about to head to that region for what they'd intended as a late summer sort of trip.

*playfully hurls a snowball at pleo's window*
Come and play with me!
You know, that's beautiful and brings back memories about one month old...
*offers you some rakomelo to get through this!*

*heh*, it shows though how used to such weather conditions you are...I mean, I got so embarassingly loony during my snow in...and I wasn't the only one.
In the end, there was about 300 cases of broken bones...

*looks up rakomelo*. mmmh-mh, that sounds yummy.

oh yeah, i'm used to it. i've also lived where it got much colder, and snowed for much longer (like sweden). still, i am only fond of snow for a couple days a year. it's very picturesque, but too darn dangerous to be driving around in.

Yes, it is!
Especially if you have homemade raki and thyme honey delivered from your Cretan special friend who's far away and you miss her so much...At least I get to visit her from time to time...

*coughs*
Sorry for that, I get a little sentimental when thinking of her...she's one of the two people which my misanthropic side, after 10+ years of university and work craziness, recognizes as friends...
It's times that I look back at those years and I wonder if I'll ever manage to reach such levels of happiness again...
though, looking back, how objective I am of those years I'm not so sure since I have this funny inclination of beautifying the past...

Hehe, forgive my babbling and for your paramour's sake I hope there is no trace of snow there tomorrow! For some unfathomable reason he sounds very adverse to any sign of mysterious white crystalline substance which was coating the ground and the vegetation, as he so eloquently said to another comment...

Hugs,
platonios (who misses Maria, and continues believing that snow is worth squeeing)

yeah, memory is a funny thing, we constantly edit it. but i still feel that as i've gotten older i've experienced less emotional heights -- and depths. part of that is also the depression, but listening to other people who don't have depression, they seem to experience similar things. the whole emotional landscape gets flatter.

on the other hand, i don't really miss the lows, and i am much more reliably in a good mood now, so overall it feels like a positive change.

hope you get to see your cretan friend soon again!

the snow is almost completely gone. :)

Pleo you couldn't have spoken truer words. And I thank you so much for the support! Image
Me, I like the feeling of discovering the world and not taking things for granted which I feel is happening to me more and more while I get older...I mean, going through life I see how things work and I end up compromising with situations that I most likely wouldn't do so in my earlier years...
I still remember when the world hold so much potential to my untrained mind...
Really now, why shouldn't people fly?
I was so happy in my belief that people possessed this feature...
*ahem* I'll stop here. Image

yes I'll see my friend in about 3 weeks during Easter vacation. ImageImage
