firecat probably has, living in california, but i haven't seen any here in the supermarket wilds. i saw one in montréal. they're gorgeous.

i mistakenly thought they were a new, possibly genetically engineered type of cauliflower, but in fact they seem to date back to the 16th century in italy. i never saw one in all my years in europe -- odd; they're so beautiful i would think they'd be amazingly popular.

My impression is that they are expletive-all difficult to grow well, at least in a northern climate. That, and they're kinda runty compared to other cruciforms, yet don't keep terribly well. The only guy who grows them around here is a really crusty organic farmer/gatherer whose prices are typically about 50% above everyone else. (Of course his fiddleheads are cleaner and more beautiful than everyone else's, and he's the only local source for chanterelles, so I tend to cut him a great deal of slack -- behind his back, of course, or he'd be even ruder.)
