just because you suddenly have acres of new screen real estate (19" LCD instead of 17" CRT) so you can see more application windows next to each other does not magically imbue your machine with more processing power to actually run all those applications without swapping like crazy.

A friend moved to Ireland and so sold his macs. He ended up with a 20" Apple Cinema Display that he failed to sell, so he sold it to me for $100. This caused a cascade upgrade of my computer. Monitor requires ADC, I had VGA. Bought an adapter, but then that required DVI so I had to get a new video card. Video cards use PCI-E now, I had AGP, so that means a new motherboard. So...I got a good Core 2 Duo, 2GB of fast memory, 256mb video card, nice motherboard, and DVI->ADC adapter. First real upgrade of my computer since 1998. WOW was the difference noticeable.
