I knew what it meant--droplet--but wasn't sure it was Dutch (I thought it might have been a Scandinavian language). Cognates, and photo illustrations of the words, are wonderful things.

you speak Dutch? I find myself sometimes thinking (or dreaming) in English.

yes, dutch is one of my favourite languages, though it's been getting rusty because i haven't been reading much in it since i started my love affair with japanese.

i don't normally think or dream in any language (it's more of a "gestalt" thing), but now and then one of the ones i speak reasonably well jumps in there with a specific word or phrase that's "le mot juste" (*heh*). lately japanese has started to make an appearance, which is odd -- i don't actually speak japanese well at all yet. it's probably because japanese is so different that it's got an easier time to provide just the right word for more situations, especially if they're reminiscent of something i read in manga or watched in anime.

I have seen your 'struggles' with Japanese. I found myself thinking and dreaming in English quite a lot when I worked in a giftshop and spoke a lot of English.
If you want to do some wrestling in Dutch, laat het me dan maar weten :)

While we're looking at photos, how do you upload your pictures? The pictures I've uploaded to scrapbook come out smaller and fuzzier than the originals, and I don't know where to fiddle the settings.

i don't fiddle any settings for uploading; i prep the pictures for the size i want in photoshop and then upload them straight via the web form. when posting them to my journal, that's when i fiddle, because it always wants to display them smaller with links to the full versions. i don't want the link because i've already sized it properly for my layout.

i checkmark the picture i want to post from looking at all the pictures in the gallery, then "post to journal". on the next screen i change columns to 1, picture size to large, and caption to where/whether i want it (below or none). i add a description if i have something to say about it. click continue.

i delete everything in red, and change the values in cyan to the full size size of the picture i uploaded. since i prep everything in p'shop i know what size that is. if you don't remember, you have to go into the gallery and look at the individual picture in management mode, under "full size" it tells you. that's also where you can get the direct link for that picture -- but as you can see it's easy to get just by deleting everything from the last / on in the img src html.
