he really is one of the best cats i've ever had. and i've had a lot (for most of my life i've been taking in strays and ferals, get them healthy / socialized and then find homes for them). he's not particularly well-behaved (though he is _much_ better than he was at first), and it's a lot of work to get him to not terrorize other cats, and i've yet to break him of peeing in the house, *sigh*.

but he is the most fun. he loves to play, and he's always up to something interesting. what other cats see as terrorizing is often just his rough attempts to play with them; he's not really nasty. i love to go on walks with him too; he's fun to watch -- almost as much fun as a dog.

they all try and sleep in bed with me (or the paramour), but luckily not all at once, or we'd have no room left. :)

he's good about stealing blankets, but he takes up the most room; at least he doesn't try to sleep on top of me, like shadow and persis.

shadow was the first of the current batch; she was very young at the time (under a year), very sick, and had just given birth to a litter of 4. she was smart enough to look for food, and i felt so sorry for her, i took her in to get her healthy and some meat on her bones. it didn't take more than a week before she started to bring the kittens in, very carefully.

bang!, timid(ity), and cal(liope) are 3 of that litter; the 4th (ninja) disappeared shortly after they all started to join us.

at the time there were two tomcats hanging around the area, bacchus and a tabby, roundface. roundface was badly wounded one day, and disappeared afterwards, before i could catch him and take him to the vet. i figured that bacchus was the father of shadow's litter, because of their colouration. and one day he started to follow the others inside.

persis(tence) is the only one who's not related to the others. she was hanging around outside for a while, and then decided we were good people, and just came inside and started sleeping on the couch. i tried to gshoo her away for a while, but no go, she outlasted my determination. hence the name. :)

Timid looks really exotic on the picture where he's sitting with Persis, especially his eyes and his fluffed up hair-coat on his neck. Reminds me of a lynx...


Shadow and Bang! (<--dare I ask why Bang! ?) are beauties, I love black and white!
And the picture where Persis paws at the human finger, so cute the way she looks!
I thought her name was really Persis, being taken from Persian Empire...Persistence makes so much more sense!

bang! because he has an exclamation mark in the middle of his face, and "bang" is an old-style net term (http://www.netdictionary.com/b.html). we're computer geeks. :)

no, i don't get easily frustrated with them. they're not very destructive, for one. cats can be trained, though most people don't bother. there are two main tricks to it: be more persistent than they are (this is where most people fail, but i am stubborn), and if you forbid them something, make sure they have an equivalent alternative. we always keep a couple of hefty cardboard boxes around which they are allowed to shred, and they don't scratch the furniture (except for an ancient recliner which gets involved when they play, and we don't care about that). they don't generally ruin anything. it helps that they're outdoor cats; they don't get destructive out of boredom. and we play with them to keep them (and us) entertained -- a shoestring and a bottlecap are good for hours of enjoyment.

also, we're not particularly fussy. cat hairs get on everything, and we're used to having to brush it off. they're not allowed on the kitchen counters, and they're very good about that; it's been ages since persis tried. (i have some very good tricks about how to keep them off.) other than that, they're pretty much allowed everywhere in the house, and having it be friendly for them is more important to us than having it a showplace for other humans.

I should point out that we never allow them to play with both the shoestring and the bottlecap at the same time for fear that a critical mass of cat cuteness would be achieved, sucking in the whole island.

yeah, we have several who're just fine with it. actually even he is ok with it now (a sopposed to at first), but he doesn't love it, and is more likely to interpret it as "let's playfight".
