the fashionable semi-rural resident makes sure their cat and their firewood are colour-coordinated.

And pretty nearly color-coordinated with your LJ background image, too.

Fashionable suburban residents on the other hand colour-coordinate their cats and beards :-).

And fashioinable urban residents colour co-ordinate their cats and their interiors.
Not me, no not I.....

Cats take care of that -- it's called shedding.

Which is the reminder to the humans to reduce the mite population by vacuuming. :)

Gorgeous cat, but I'm drooling over your wood pile. Mine has diminished to barely enough to get us through the winter in (entirely decorative) fires; I'm actually going to have to buy firewood this year!

o/~ Never set the cat on fire...

Ooo. Nice lighting!

My woodpile is not nearly so beautiful. But quite huge,
which counts for something. (-5F this morning [-20C, I
think]).

i'd rather have an ugly pile, since what makes it beautiful (the colour and mmmh, it smells great) means it's mostly red cedar, which burns too quickly. and because it's all sawmill ends and they're all thin, it burns even more quickly.

but eh, it doesn't get that cold here, and putting new wood in the stove every 30 min at least gets me up from my chair. :)

Kindling!! I never have enough of that. Though this winter I've hired someone to work on my house, so I sometimes have scraps of pine that make excellent kindling.

I foolishly sat at the computer for an hour or two too long and now am working to get the stoves roaring again. Brrr. Must find my lap warmer (cat - not the warm colors like yours, but he works just as well).

And me without a fashionable wood pile. If I didn't know better, I'd be asking how my Orange Beast ended up in your yard. From this angle, at least, the resemblance is uncanny.

you want him back? :)

just kidding. bacchus is actually my favourite cat even though he is a royal pain in the neck because he likes to pester the others, and he sprays in the house, *sigh*. fixing feral tomcats when they're already full adults unfortunately doesn't change all of their undesirable behaviours. though really, i am not complaining much; he's become such a sweetheart when compared to how he started. he's very smart for a cat (which is probably part of why i like him so much). and he plays well.

Beast is astoundingly well socialized, with humans at least. I was told by his previous people that he is happier being an only cat - when they got other pets he demanded to be primarily outdoors. (Around here in suburbia I keep him indoors whatever he thinks of it, and am letting him be the only pet despite the temptations to the contrary.) I think he's the most extraverted creature in this house, by a long shot.

Spraying in the house -- any tips for dealing with or decreasing that?

It's never been an issue I've had to deal with, at least as an adult with a say in the matter, since all my four-legged roommates for the past several years have been either female or neutered early enough. Any month now, though, I'm going to inherit a brace of semi-feral males, who now are neutered and like people and other cats well enough, but who spray liberally and are used to being outdoor cats.

I'm not really okay with having outdoor cats, since I live in an urban area and I know for a fact that there's FLV in the stray population in the neighborhood. (I hate taking strays in to the rescue or even my vet, given the frequency with which they test positive for that and have to be put down. Better than not doing it, though.) Making them indoor-only will be a hellacious amount of work, and might make them miserable enough not to be worth it, but I'd like to at least get them to come in every so often so that I can check up on them and keep them warm in the worst weather. And I have roommates who will not take well to cat urine.
