who says we have no fall colours? :)

i didn't think today was going to work up to much, and it didn't. but i got the new shelves put up in the living room, and am now moving books over there. it's always so nice to free imprisoned books from boxes in which they were held for much too long.

also bought catfood. and found the copies of lapidary journal i was looking for on ebay, very cheap (cheaper than buying a reprint of the articles i need, if i could even get those yet). so, three items off the list (two of which weren't previously on it :).

but i am very sluggish. i think i'll just vegetate in front of the telly, resisting the bloody game those pushers [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj and [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal are peddling!

Our fall colors are mostly poison oak, which vines through the trees in the forest and makes great stiffy bushy copses in the parkland.

Sure, sit in front of the mindless tube instead of joining your friends and fellow-travelers in their insanity. Hmph. ;-)

Cool. That reminds me to see if Netflix has season 8 yet. I hadn't seen a single episode before about a year ago when [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy introduced me to it, and I laughed my ass off. Now we've seen seasons 1-7 and I've been waiting for 8 to come out.

I'm noticing roses now that [livejournal.com profile] trixtah and I properly weeded and mulched my rose bed last weekend. Thank-you for posting the picture, it's a stunning combination of colours :)

As You Know Bob, it's spring here. But among the other things in flower, we have silky oak. The flowers are orangey-yellow-this-tree-is-on-fire-coloured. It looks like they're flowering at the wrong time of year.

of course i had to google that. it seems to be rather more revered for its wood than its flower, *heh* -- loads and loads of images of fine furniture and other woodworkings. very pretty wood, too. searching for grevillea robusta finds more with flowers. wow. impressive!

here is my favourite set mainly because it also shows the way cool seedpods.

I guess "silky oak" is used more to refer to the wood (and it is very pretty) but it seems sort of pretentious to call the trees Grevillea robusta. (Also, they're possibly not grevillea, although that's clearly the closest relative).

If you like seedpods, you have to come to Australia some time. Various gum nuts, bottlebrushes, casuarina, banksia, and so on. Many of them only open once they've been through a fire.

I'm actually not even playing it myself. ;) I don't know if that makes it worse or better.
