piranha: red origami crane (Default)
i slept most of the day away, so this is really sunday's picture. and in that spirit...

this is the closest bacchus and cal have ever been peacefully together. a rarity of rarities, and i was just really happy when i saw it. 4 years of patient [1] socialization finally paid off -- his mere presence [2] tends to terrorize her to the point where for a while she avoided the house altogether, and still often sneaks around close to the ground when she does come inside, looking furtively around for her nemesis. lately she's been inside a whole lot, usually sleeping on the futon, and at some point in time he must have joined her while she was fast asleep and didn't notice him.

[1] i think this is probably the only thing about which i am patient, training animals of widely differing temperaments (and sometimes species) to get along with each other.

[2] and of course he isn't content to let his presence alone work the magic -- he pounces on her and chases her with relish. we're convinced that this is largely due to her skittish behaviour (and this picture is proof of that). while he is sometimes just in the mood to be chasing himself something, most of the time he leaves the others alone if they don't make sudden moves.
