more on miers
Oct. 22nd, 2005 15:37george will lobs another scathing article into the miers nomination debate.
Such is the perfect perversity of the nomination of Harriet Miers that it discredits, and even degrades, all who toil at justifying it. Many of their justifications cannot be dignified as arguments. Of those that can be, some reveal a deficit of constitutional understanding commensurate with that which it is, unfortunately, reasonable to impute to Miers. Other arguments betray a gross misunderstanding of conservatism on the part of persons masquerading as its defenders.
if we weren't talking about dubya here, i would expect the white house to withdraw the nomination some time soon. being as we are talking about dubya, i have no idea whether that concept is in his repertoire, and whether he can be moved by the more politically astute to insult a loyal friend thusly.
the part of my mind awash in schadenfreude doesn't want her nomination to be withdrawn; it wants to watch the confirmation hearings. *sigh*. i have had to remind myself repeatedly that this is not a reality show on tv. when did i grow that detached?
