i feel ranty
Jul. 31st, 2006 14:01oh so ranty, i feel ranty, and bitchy and gripe, and i pity any twit who's in my sight tonight. [1]
such as mel gibson. a person to whom i usually don't give the time a day, but in driving past i saw a conservative blogger defend him. and rather than get involved in an argument with that stupid person, i'll have myself a little rant here.
you stupid fuck, mel. the sadistic gore-fest that is the passion of the christ is bad enough. your refusal to take a stand against your father's holocaust denials is telling. your support of that compound for catholics who can't bear vatican II (because it stopped blaming the jews for jesus's death) is not exactly neutral.
and now you want us to believe that you didn't mean it when you said "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." it was all the alcohol talking? you don't believe such despicable things, sugar tits?
bull shit. most of us have some experience with alcohol. it loosens inhibitions, is what it does. it interferes with your judgment. it causes you to say things that sober you'd very carefully hide except maybe from your bestest buddies, because otherwise you might get in trouble for being an arsehole.
you meant every word of it, you bigotted vat of pseudo-christian sludge. and you're a stupid fuck. because it's demonstrably not true. allow me to educate you, since apparently your secondary education didn't take:
jews are in part responsible for the arab/israeli conflicts. yup. but beyond that?
WWI -- austro-hungarian insistence to impose its will on the balkans, german desire for greater international power, french revenge fantasies against germany, russian need to re-establish some national unity and pride, set off by a serbian terrorist act. not a jew in sight.
WWII -- the rise of totalitarian, militaristic regimes in germany, italy, and japan after the problematic treaty of versailles, and economic depression made people desperate and eager to listen to demagoguery. jews? they were the ones who suffered, millions of whom were killed (your father, mel gibson, is probably an even greater idiot than you are).
the US/iraq war -- george w. bush and his neocon advisers. ok, there are some jews among those, but bush is a "christian", his voting base is "christian", and it's far from clear that even those neo-cons who are jewish are all "likudniks". a large percentage of americans supported the war at its start, the vast majority of whom are not jewish. american jews in general are less hawkish than american christians. if GWB's war had been fought to enhance israel's security interests at the time, that war would have been fought against iran and/or syria, which were (and remain) a much greater threat. israel had in fact more to fear from that war than it had to gain (namely that saddam hussein would strike out against them because they're a US ally, and because they're such a handy firepot to ignite arab anti-west passions).
any other wars you had in mind? the chechen uprising maybe? the basque one? the northern ireland conflict? somalia? liberia? chad? sudan? kashmir? burma? algeria? korea? nepal? peru? laos? kurdistan? *punt*; no jews in positions of responsibility.
so that's why you're a stupid fuck, mel. go home. walk, don't drive. get sober. get yourself an education. get out of my sight.
[1] (my apologies to stephen sondheim and leonard bernstein; OMG jews! they're responsible for all the musicals in the world!)

Echoing the same sentiment here.
on 2006-07-31 22:39 (UTC)I understand that he was drinking, and would never have said those things about Jews were he sober. But the fact remains that he did say them, and drinking or not, he wouldn't have said them at all unless he believed what he was saying in some way.
This reminds me of an incident at work. A girl in the department sent out an extremely racist email (dealing with Lebanese-Canadians and their right to come back to Canada) to a huge amount of people. She sent it with a statement preceding the actual forwarded email letting the recipients know that she was indeed glad to forward on that particular piece of hate mail and that she agreed with it. Of course, she didn't mean to send it to the entire department, she meant to send it to friends outside of work, but she sent it to the wrong recipients by accident. She apologized afterwards for the email and then claimed that she didn't support it and had only received it from a family friend and meant to forward a different email instead. Now that girl is known as a racist at work, and even though she retracted that email, claiming ignorance and that it was a mistake, it was very clearly full of beliefs that she holds considering the statement that she sent out with the email.
Mel might not want people to realize he's an anti-semite, and will likely do everything he can now to save his public image, but that doesn't make him any less of an anti-semite and I hope he suffers for it with the loss of his career, since he's just turned from a bland actor a into First Class Creep.

on 2006-07-31 23:03 (UTC)Have you heard the "You Won't Succeed On Broadway" song from Spamalot?
But yeah, that guy has serious problems -- when I read the report of his behavior the other day it was a real jaw-dropper.

on 2006-08-01 01:22 (UTC)I liked him back in the Mad Max movies, but haven't had much use for him since _Passion_.
And hearing that antisemitism is rising gets me reaching for my placard... - satire stick.

on 2006-08-01 06:16 (UTC)I was surprised to read the stuff about MG - though as I've never really paid him any attention I don't know why any views of his would come as a surprise to be honest. I studiously avoided 'The Passion' and haven't noticed him in anything at all for years really.
I wish I could think that this bit of publicity would hurt him in the bank balance (after all, that's where people tend to notice it most), but I suspect it won't, not really.
