any scholarly guesses as to whether jesus would have worn a beard and payot? how about tefillin? all day long, or only for prayer? a tallit? he was ragging on the pharisees in temple regarding their tefillin and tzitzit, but IIRC that might have only been about their ostentatiousness, not about their use per se.

At a guess, an answer that won't make anyone really happy: if he had reason to wear them, yes; if he had reason not to, no. "Reason" being dependent upon circumstances - location, time, the people he was with, and the particular lesson he was trying to teach them.

I know that the youngest O'Ceram brother would answer, and would have a good bit of educated guesswork to contribute (and show my own ignorance; I'll have to look up most of the vocabulary, even things I used to think I would know pretty well the rest of my life).

I should have also remembered he would contribute the facetiousness at the end, too. Pah.
