i have a message for the people who made this movie: you fucking exploitative parasites, may a thousand ravens rip out your livers.

i'm not convinced that whoever made the movie deserves the ravens, but whoever bought the television ads certainly does. i do not need to see that ad ever again. i did not need to see it at all, strictly speaking.

this, friends, is why everyone needs tivo. I can't think of the last time I watched a commercial I didn't want to watch.

ah, i do have tivo. it's just that in the time that it takes for me to recognize it, find the remote, and forward through it, we're well through a good part of the commercial. and while i don't mind doing that for "did you know that diabetes causes erectile dysfunction" commercials, it pisses me off with this one.

(yes, i know, pay more attention, fast forward through them all. but i don't mind listening to most of them, and mostly it's on for noise while i'm on the internet.)

ahh yeah, that makes sense. I don't ever have the TV on unless I'm watching it, so I forget that people do the background noise thing.

While I'm inclined to agree with you in this case, I have a hard time figuring out where a reasonable cut-off is for dramatisations of traumatic historical events. [ Munich ? Second World War films ? Second World War films made with the intent to inspire during the Second World War ? I can see people thinking they were doing something similar and coming up with something like United 93 without it having to be exploitative intent. ]

i agree that it's hard to determine how much time constitutes a reasonable amount of time to let pass -- but 4 years isn't it, for me. that's not enough time for the dust to settle and truth to sort itself from rubble. AFAIK the full contents of the cockpit recordings have not even been made public. ergo, it's too soon for a documentary. and therefore much too soon for a dramatization, which will possibly ruin the chances that any future documentary can actually reach people with more truths, because the myths created by a drama can be too strong.

what's specifically exploitive about it is that it'll rake open barely scabbed over wounds and will incense people more against islam. like we need that, *swears*.

waiting for a generation feels better to me.

that said, i can probably exempt paul greengrass from the ravens. but those at universal producing and selling the movie, they're guilty, guilty, guilty. just look at the trailer. it constitutes all i need for my indictment.
