muse of bureaucracy i am actually working with image-based lighting and ambient occlusion, but here's another side effect of my imagination who wanted out.

oh nonono -- not from scratch, not even remotely. i am using poser 6, which specializes in posing and animating human figures.

a while ago i got frustrated when creating collages with humans because it's so difficult and time-consuming to find just the right person with just the right expression in just the right pose for some of the images i want to create, and i can't draw well enough yet. so i checked out poser -- it comes with several human figures which one can pose at will, and even better, one can change their faces and bodies to look very different from the base models, and one can change their skin textures. that looked like just the thing for me.

and as is typical for me, i didn't stop at that, *snicker*. i found that most people only use pre-packaged poser items to arrange them in fantasy scenes, and that there is a thriving cottage industry of people creating further content such as specific characters formed from the base characters, clothing, hair, stock poses, etc -- i was amazed when i first came across this. so while i started out just wanting to have mannequins that i could pose, now i am teaching myself to make such add-on items; clothes and textures in specific. a little while ago i posted my first foray into clothes modelling, and my poser mannequin by now has a full set of outfits (no shoes yet, though -- shoes are hard!).
stephanie 3 petite i did a fair bit myself on this image in poser terms, but i didn't create the base figure. i changed her a little so she has this particular face and body shape, i made new skin and eye textures. i didn't create the hair, i just painted a few red streaks into it. i didn't create the outfit, but i made the red tape material for it.

for comparison, here is the base figure.

not so amazing, really, but i'm quite pleased with how quickly i am picking up poser. if you want, you can check out other people's poser art. warning: giant boob alert -- there is a certain juvenile element that delights in letting their hormones run wild. :) the usual thing; 90% of everything is crap. but the remaining 10% are pretty cool.
