so for the last 3 days i've done power research about guitars, and tried out quite a few, and today i found the one that said "take me home".

the new boi
so pretty! i mean, the sound, most of all. *grin*. but i rather like the very understated look as well. it's a seagull s6+ folk. built in québec in april of this year, almost entirely from canadian wood: solid cedar top, back and sides 3-layer wild cherry laminate, neck is silver leaf maple, and fretboard and bridge are rosewood, cream binding, with a satin lacquer finish. it's a bit smaller than a dreadnought, and has a bit more waist, which means that it fits me well. the fretboard is sooo smooth. i had the guitar guy adjust the action a bit lower, and it seems fine to me now; we'll see how it goes as i grow calluses. the picture is from seagull's website; mine has a dark pickguard -- though that's the only thing that i wish it didn't have -- i would have chosen to put a clear one on myself
but the sound! the sound is just amazing. it out-sounded just about every other guitar i tried, including several that were considerably more expensive. it's a very warm and full sound, especially in the midrange; not as bright as spruce in the upper range, not as boomy as mahogany in the bass. very well balanced.
*bounce*!

on 2004-10-19 01:55 (UTC)i've had the s6 for a year and a half now, and i love it -- i know what you mean, it's really the only one that really grabbed me, too. the sound is absolutely gorgeous -- the warmth is perfect.
enjoy!!

on 2004-10-19 08:23 (UTC)been over that for a while, and have considered picking it back up for some years. the recent exposure to filk was the catalyst for going ahead. :)

on 2004-10-19 04:28 (UTC)Did you look only at acoustic guitars or also at electric? (I want an electric guitar but I haven't found the time to do the research yet.)
