it's been a while since i've written about it -- mostly because for a long time there was nothing new to write; i'd continue to praise bacchus when he was being good, and put him in the cage when he was nasty towards cal and at night, and that was that. but things have slowly worked their way towards peace. relations between bacchus and cal are now normalised to the point where i think they are good enough. he no longer chases immediately after her when he sees her close by, and he rarely stalks her (no more so than he stalks any of the other cats, and it's mostly in play). when we walk, they come witin a couple of feet of each other, and without cal being super-careful all the time.

so, his harness came off a couple of days ago, and so far i haven't missed the "easy access". i'm gonna leave the cage up for now, just in case. i'm also gonna continue to watch him so he doesn't slip back into staring her down.

i should go back and check how long the entire process took. sometimes it seemed like "forever", but it was really not that long after all, not considering that he was a fully grown feral tomcat.

Congratulations on Bacchus getting used to Cal. I'd advise keeping the cage around for a while. Zeki has basically been wellbehaved since that magical six-week point, which must have been in May (this must have been written six days later (http://jamver.id.au/cgi-bin/blosxom-ibj.cgi/2005/06/02#friends20050602)). But every so often he acts up, and being able to time-out him easily is very convenient. Also, of course, Zeki is used to cages, and in fact goes in there voluntarily. As far as we can tell, this is when life is stressing him out a bit much.

Yesterday, Nemrut was licking the bathroom immediately after I'd been cleaing it, and I was worried he was going to be sick once he'd ingested enough cleaning product, so he got bunged in the cage. Both he and Zeki were completely nonplussed by this.
