an inevitable part of the hermitting i do is that i lose track of time. i was quite satisfied with myself about the state of the residence in view of the paramour returning on the 21st; having had so much nervous energy was good for general cleanliness, though the cats make certain that the floor never really stays clean for long. so, i had plans. (those of you who know me well will know what comes now).

*ptui*, plans. why even bother? :)

i was gonna do the laundry tomorrow, and most of the cleaning that's left. then i'd do the laundry and return the recyclables on the 21st.

except the 21st is tomorrow. if the paramour hadn't said to me in IM "see you tomorrow!" i wonder whether i would have realised it at all. *rolls eyes*. how the heck can i get bloody windows to display the time and the date on my task bar, not just when i hover, but always?

anyway. it was hot today, but i got a cactusload done anyway. i have the awning up (this is just a makeshift awning constructed from a large sheet of shade fabric and three poles, but last year we never managed to actually put up the poles), the bathroom is clean (have i mentioned lately how much i love melamine sponges? they make cleaning the tub so much more pleasant.), all the pantry shelves are clean and restocked, the recyclables for deposit are in the truck, and the garbage is at the curb, more soil where the diseased rose once was has been dug up, sifted to remove stones, and mixed with peat moss and compost. i also attacked parts of my email backlog (*shudders at size of that*), and wrote a long post on asexuality (which needs a bit more gestation). and paid our email provider.

but the best news is that the paramour is coming home TOMORROW!

mine is on the right side, and it turns out it was just too narrow to show any more than the time. i guess i'll switch it back to hide, cause it's taking up too much space when i expand it to show the day and date as well. oh, wait, i don't want to do that because of the IM flash. i've got to find a better way for that. maybe i should set it to grab focus. *urk*.

nevermind me. i can't sleep.

yeah, thanks -- but those are all add-ons. i knew the OS itself could do it because i'd seen it before; i just hadn't realised i made the taskbar too small for everything to show up (only the time did).

as an aside -- U$30 for a task bar clock replacement? good grief. i'd hang my wrist watch above my monitor instead. :) come to think of it, that's not a bad idea, since i don't wear it often anyway.

ok, i'll try that sleep thing again. not going so well for you either, i see.

GAS: set some kind of alarm program to display a new message with the new date at 00:01?

that'd be a fine idea, if i actually paid any attention to things that pop up on me. but they tend to annoy me because they're disruptive, and therefore i might as well not use them, since i just mentally shove them aside anyway.

it does work when the time, date, and day are just sitting there quietly in the corner, because i'll scoot down there frequently enough for tray icons to notice. well, it works mostly. i still lose time, but usually only when nothing specific is scheduled.

that cat icon is so nifty. :) it really "feels" like you.

I ignore pop-up things too usually...

Thanks, I think so too. (Which is why I actually bought a card and scanned it in just to make an icon out of it.)
