native, and supposedly not rare in BC, but this is only the second time i've seen it around here, so this was a special find. the first peoples of the area used to eat the bulbs, supposedly they're peppery-tasting.

i am sort of tempted to move it, because where it is now it might not survive the next flood, but from what i've read it does not take well to transplanting, so i probably won't.

Beautiful. It's amazing how many of the plants people think of as "garden plants" are also wild natives. I think as people get further away from true wild nature they will loose sight of this. But maybe it will make the times they see them even more special?

I had one of these in a wild, barely used part of my yard for the first few years here in Western Washington. Then one year, it simply wasn't there anymore! I have not seen one anywhere since, so yes, I'd say it is a special find indeed!

I saw a bunch in the Siskiyous a year ago, but we don't get them much in the Willamette Valley. They are a lot of fun.
