10 things i have done that you probably haven't

and i am not allowing myself to use (semi)famous people, or specific locations, because that's too easy.

• converted a chicken stall into a living room.


• slept in my car in sweden in winter for 3 months.


• set out for a little saturday drive to walk the dog somewhere new, and ended up driving about 1000 miles (all the way from new jersey to florida).


• went to three different countries just for vacation and ended up staying and getting a job.


• tried to cross the st. gotthard pass in winter (this attests to me not even thinking about those signs i couldn't read in the snow -- *duh*).


• collided with a red-tailed hawk while i was flying a sailplane.


• ran an entire household including taking care of two younger children when i was 13.


• drove a brandnew (in 1975) tricked-out porsche 911 turbo on an actual race track.


• stuck an epoxy-covered finger in at least 25,000 screwholes.


• got interviewed by the FBI (equivalent) when applying for a TA position.

the paramour says i should mention that i put lemon into milk and shake the concoction up before drinking it, but surely i can't be the only person who does that?

How much lemon, and does anything else go in?

I'm fond of a Dominican (I think it's Dominican) drink called morir soñando, which is about equal parts orange juice and milk, with vanilla and maybe cinnamon--when I make it at home I don't bother with cinnamon.

i don't really know how much -- i've never measured, i just pour in a good "shot" (which has nothing to do with a shot glass). i also put a little sweetener in, though not when i pour it over cereal with a banana or other fruit.

i generally don't drink milk as is; i always cut it with something citrusy -- right now i am using "5 alive". i've done orange juice too, though not 50/50; it's usually less citrus than milk, though more orange than lemon juice, and no sweetener with orange.

i started this when, as a child, i had to drink milk that tasted of silage (in winter), and i hated that taste.

How do you avoid the lemon curdling the milk (or do you just not care)? The taste sounds appealing in principle, but I don't want to drink cottage cheese...

i like the thicker texture (i also like buttermilk). i shake it whenever it separates too much. it never gets to be anywhere as thick as cottage cheese, but it does need to be mixed well, and it doesn't keep (it'll separate), so i make as much as i feel like using fresh every time.

I use lemon in milk as a substitute for buttermilk in recipes. Does that count?

no! you're not drinking it, *grin*. i do that too, though. well, when i cook. well, when i cook and don't have buttermilk. which hasn't happened in a long time.
