i've been really active the last couple of days, probably in part because it hasn't been raining, and i've been itching to do some garden work. but first i cleaned the inside -- washed kitchen and bathroom, and vacuumed the living room. washed out bacchus' cage too. and then i started to cut down the backberries in the back. normally i wouldn't bother to do a lot of that, but the heavy snowfall really weighed them down, and the mess seems more approachable, so i think i'll be clearing all the old growth out. had to prune a bunch of small branches off the apple tree as well, since it more or less gracefully sank to the ground during the same snowfall.

before (in actuality, the left side since i didn't think of taking pictures until i already had cleared out the right)

after

after getting done with the garden side of the fence, i am gonna go between it and the hedge and cut everything down in there as well.

Yikes, that looks like prickly work.

A civilized Himalayan blackberry is a Himalayan blackberry hermetically sealed away from its avian vectors, in my book.

"the only good H blackberry is a dead H blackberry"? :)

the bloody things don't even need the avian vectors; that just helps them spread faster. the damn runners are trying to form a solid mat in our backyard.

luckily i really like eating blackberries.
