piranhait's been interesting to read over recent reports from the pacific tsunami warning center. i never before realized how many earthquakes occur in alaska, *duh*. the last big tsunami vancouver island experienced was caused by one of those in 1964, which was at the time the second strongest earthquake ever. nobody died here, which is amazing when one looks at the pictures of port alberni (i left the wrong link in your LJ, matthew; sorry).
