the colour is named after the flower, and was first recorded in england in 1892. like that whole bluish red range around magenta it's another one of those colours i only like in nature, with lots of green around.

did you know that in 1949, the colour names of crayola crayons were reformed to become more scientific (thank you, wikipedia)?

bacchus is doing fine today; he was still a little slow this morning, but later on he walked with me, eliminated without problems, jumped up on his usual spots, and glared at cal and bang, which is all perfectly normal. probably the vet threat worked. :)

And the flower is named after a guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonhart_Fuchs). I find this worth mentioning because it allows me to actually spell Fuchs + ia, the only mnemonic that has ever worked. Normally I'm a good speller, but the plant world has some doozies.

i knew that, i swear! it must have been gremlins who moved the 's'. luckily later that night heinzelmännchen moved it back. :)
