the food country had an embarrassment of new riches; 9 differently coloured variants. so pretty. they also had a lot of mums and coleus, but i don't like coleus much. but i saw another gaillardia that i like ('oranges and lemons'); i might go tomorrow and pick it up. fall discount time has arrived -- time to scout all the local plant places.

the dark burgundy and the dark-veined ones put me back in the mind of creating a goth garden. after i came back from farthingparty (where i got the idea) i made a list of plants i'd like in it, but then the project stalled along with all my other garden projects. might be time to restart thinking about it and see whether i can pick up some starter plants cheap.

Oh, that's pretty; I especially like how the plant to the left and up came out. Looks like examples from completely different ecosystems.

I love heuchera. Mine have done really well this year, and I'm thinking about hitting a plant store or three to see if I can find some cheap to fill in a couple of places in my yard. If I can find the digital camera, I'll try to take a couple of pix this weekend.

garden plants!

Gaillardia "Oranges and Lemons" has done well for me. I got it for half off due to broken stems, and it's grown them all back and more. It's about 18" tall at the moment, with one flower at a time. The real star is little Gaillardia "Fanfare", though -- 6-8 flowers at a time for about two months now.

I have someplace a book on dramatic dark plants. I'll check around.
