surprise!

polistes dominula, european paper wasps, build their nests anywhere they can. most of them under the roof overhang, which seems like a sensible place.. last year when we weren't driving the truck for a while i found one between the passenger door and the frame. this one was in my old garden trowel which i had left on the patio lying upside down.
