in butchart's japanese garden. [ETA: janetmk pointed out that it might be an arisaema, and from googling, that appears to be the case. totally cool. i've always wanted one, and now i want it even more; what neat fruit.]

i did a lot of yard cleanup work today, and the most fun was had by putting the shredder together and shredding old cedar and new grapevine and blackberry branches. got a whole bag full of lovely compostable material. luckily this shredder does not remind me of fargo; the opening isn't large enough.

bacchus is still sick. he laid in the same spot outside most of the day, and then came in and went into my room for a while. now he's on the couch, which is something; he's no longer hiding. but still, vet tomorrow unless he's real chipper when i get up.
