hairy manzanita (arctostaphylos columbiana). the leaves are a bit of a thirst quencher when chewed. the bushes are gorgeous with their twisted, coppery branches.

VIEX (vancouver island exhibition = agricultural fair) starts today; about to head out for it.

8-15 VIEX, probably around 3 km. there seem to be fewer participants this year, at least in the livestock categories. saw some pretty chickens though, and baby alpacas. photographing is as always difficult because of dark barns, too many people, and cages. didn't stay long due to errand, didn't even eat bad-for-me food. tomorrow!

also tried to buy a replacement DSL modem, because ours is on the fritz. alas, one can no longer do that in this cow town. WTF is wrong with telus? it takes them 5 days to send us one. 5 days! like, we're just gonna take a week off from work?
