dragonfly

unfortunately overexposed, but that's the best dragonfly shot i've got yet. they sure don't sit still for long on hot days like today.

walklog:

7-20 hemerglobin park, the trail that comes out in the old orchard above the entrance. 2.86 km, 1:25, elevation gain 452m. there is a crossroute shortly before this trail ends up in the field, which i want to take to the left and see where it goes. lots of duckweed in the smaller lakes. also indian pipe in several small groupings.

newly ripe berries: huckleberries and saskatoon berries. also black cherries on abandoned old orchard trees. nomnomnom.

new blooms: hardhack, fireweed, bullrush, various thistles, water hemlock (not so nomnomnom).

Exactly. I think it's a sort of cargo-cult holdover from Ansel Adams that makes us all think that everything in a picture should fit within the available dynamic range, with highlights just touching pure white and shadows just touching pure black. The exposure on the wings and the body is perfect, and blowing out the highlights gives a real sense of how hot and bright it is.

(Also, I have to admire you for the depth of field. All of my dragonfly pictures have either one wing or the other out of focus.)
